Albion's goal was scored by Alexis Mac Allister . A real coupon buster.

Having won on their previous two visits to Goodison, an optimistic Albion squad headed North hoping to make it three in a row. Bart Verbruggen in the Albion goal was called into early action, turning away a well-struck volley from Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, on 7 minutes the Toffees took the lead when a shot by Vitaliy Mykolenko rebounded to the defender and who from close-in lashed the ball into the Albion net. 0-1.

Seven minutes later Lewis Dunk hammered home an excellent left-foot volley following a Pascal Gross free-kick but the dreaded VAR ruled the goal out, citing Evan Ferguson offside when he wasnt - a harsh decision this. The Seagulls were dominating possession without creating any clear-cut chances and they had a let-off when James Garner's free-kick just cleared Verbruggen's crossbar.

Half-time 0-1.

The second-half started in the same vein as the first, with the Albion controlling possession but failing to find a final product but they came ever so close to equalising on 54 minutes when Dunk's superb free-kick from some twenty yards out was tipped over the bar by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for an excellent save. Kaoru Mitoma embarked on a mazy run down the left-wing when eventually his cross fell to Gross but the German's wayward shot flew over the bar.

Substitute Joao Pedro then had his goal-bound shot deflected by Everton defender James Tarkowski but Albion's probing was finally rewarded on 84 minutes when Mitoma's run down the left ended with a cross-cum-shot which took a wicked deflection off defender Ashley Young and looped over keeper Pickford into the Everton net for an equaliser the Seagulls richly deserved. 1-1. The last substantive action of the game saw keeper Verbruggen save Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header and both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Final-score 1-1.

Match stats:

Albion had 7 attempts at goal, with 2 on target and won 3 corners, free-kicks conceded - 5.
Everton had 10 attempts at goal, with 4 on target and won 3 corners, free-kicks conceded - 15.

VERDICT - Despite dominating the game for long periods, the Albion couldn't find a cutting edge in their finishing. Skipper Lewis Dunk twice went close to getting on the scoresheet. Maybe the Albion's hectic football schedule is catching up with them, plus the number of injuries. Nonetheless they are producing attractive football in the meantime, which is a credit to Roberto De Zerbi and his team.

Albion line-up (4-3-3):- Bart Verbruggen; Joel Veltman, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Lewis Dunk (Capt), Pascal Gross; Adam Lallana (Joao Pedro 46), Billy Gilmour (Mahmoud Dahoud 68), James Milner (Facunda Buonanotte 79); Simon Adringa (Igor Julio 90), Evan Ferguson (Ansu Fati 68), Kaoru Mitoma.

Subs not used: Jason Steele (G/K), Adam Webster, Carlos Baleba, Jack Hinshelwood.

Everton line-up (4-4-1-1):- Jordan Pickford; Ashley Young (Nathan Patterson 90), James Tarkowski, Jarrod Branthwaite, Vitaliy Mykolenko; Jack Harrison, James Garner, Idrissa Gueye, Dwight McNeil; Abdoulaye Doucoure; Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Beto 90).

Subs not used: Joao Virginia (G/K), MIchael Keane, Ben Godfrey, Arnaut Danjuma, Youssef Chermiti, Lewis Dobbin, Andy Lonergan (G;K).

Referee: Tim Robinson (West Sussex).

Yellow Cards:

Albion: 2 - Lewis Dunk, Billy Gilmour.
Everton: 4 - James Tarkowski, Jarrod Branthwaite, Idrissa Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Possession: Albion - 80%.
