As a change from their Premier League schedule, the Albion travelled to the Potteries to meet Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City at the Bet 365 Stadium in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup, the match being broadcast by Talksport and BBC Radio Sussex Sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last time out the Albion had drawn 0-0 at West Ham United in the Premier on the 2 January and for their visit to Stoke, Albion Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi made four changes to his starting line-up from the West Ham game, with Bart Verbruggen, Lewis Dunk, Jakub Moder and Evan Ferguson replacing Jason Steele, Adam Webster, James Milner and Danny Welbeck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stoke City had endured a poor first-half of the season in the Sky Bet Championship, occupying a position in the bottom half of the table and in December 2023 had changed Head Coach, tempting Steven Schumacher to leave Plymouth Argyle to replace the previous incumbent, Alex Neil. A fine move involving Lewis Dunk and Jack Hinshelwood ended with Facundo Buonanotte's close-in shot hitting the post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Daniel Iversen in the Stoke goal saved Dunk's header but deep into time added on the Seagulls were level and it was a beauty as Pervis Estupinan smashed home a left-foot rocket from 25 yards out. 1-1<\/strong>. The score-line was a true reflection of the first-half. Half-time 1-1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The second-half saw the Seagulls take the lead on 52 minutes, when from a corner Buonanotte found Pascal Gross, who crossed to the far post where Dunk headed the ball home from close-range. 2-1<\/strong>. The Potters then levelled on 63 minutes when Dunk handled Luke McNally's header in the area and Lewis Baker calmly slotted the penalty-kick past Verbruggen. 2-2<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This set-back didnt deter the Seagulls and on 71 minutes another exquisite Gross cross found Pedro who eluded his markers to head a fine goal to put Albion ahead. 3-2. <\/strong>On 80 minutes Albion clinched the tie with another excellent goal as Van Hecke turned up on the right wing from where his cross found Pedro in the box, who coolly swept the ball home for Albion's fourth and the Brazilian's fifteenth goal of the season in all competitions. 4-2<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The final action of the game saw keeper Iversen keep out substitute Danny Welbeck's goal-bound effort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Final-score 4-2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Match stats: <\/strong> TO SUM UP - A professional performance by the Albion against a spirited Stoke City.
