{"id":3223,"date":"2024-02-22T11:25:21","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T11:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=3223"},"modified":"2024-02-22T11:36:03","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T11:36:03","slug":"jason-isaacs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=3223","title":{"rendered":"JASON ISAACS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Recently played Cary Grant in ITV's series \"Archie\"<\/h4>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jasoc-Isaacs.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3224\" style=\"width:300px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JASON ISAACS<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early life&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs was born to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jews\">Jewish<\/a>&nbsp;parents in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liverpool\">Liverpool<\/a>&nbsp;on 6 June 1963.&nbsp;His father was a jeweller.&nbsp;&nbsp;He has two older brothers and one younger brother.&nbsp;&nbsp;He spent his earliest childhood years in the Liverpool suburb of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Childwall\">Childwall<\/a>, in a \"closely knit &amp; integrated\" Jewish community co-founded by his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_European_Jews\">Eastern European Jewish<\/a>&nbsp;great-grandparents.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has said that being Jewish played a big role in his childhood, as he attended youth club in the local&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Synagogue\">synagogue<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_David_High_School,_Liverpool\">King David High School<\/a>&nbsp;in Liverpool's&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Childwall\">Childwall<\/a>&nbsp;district, as well as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cheder\"><em>cheder<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;twice a week as a young adult.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When he was 11, he moved with his family to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London\">London<\/a>&nbsp;and attended the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haberdashers'_Boys'_School\">Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School<\/a>&nbsp;in nearby&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elstree\">Elstree<\/a>&nbsp;at the same time as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Baddiel\">David Baddiel<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sacha_Baron_Cohen\">Sacha Baron Cohen<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mark_Kermode\">Mark Kermode<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matt_Lucas\">Matt Lucas<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;He describes the bullying and intolerance he observed and experienced during his childhood as \"preparation\" for portraying the \"unattractive\" villains he has most often played.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a Jewish teen in London, Isaacs endured&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antisemitism\">antisemitism<\/a>&nbsp;by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Front_(UK)\">National Front<\/a>, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Far-right_extremist\">far-right extremist<\/a>&nbsp;organisation. His parents eventually&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aliyah\">emigrated to Israel<\/a>.&nbsp;He later told an interviewer, \"There were constantly people beating us up or smashing windows. If you were ever, say, on a Jewish holiday, identifiably Jewish, there was lots of violence around. But particularly when I was 16, in 1979, the National Front were really taking hold, there were leaflets at school, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sieg_Heil\">Sieg Heiling<\/a>&nbsp;and people&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Goose-stepping\">goose-stepping<\/a>&nbsp;down the road and coming after us.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Following in the footsteps of his three brothers (one who became a doctor, one a lawyer, and one an accountant),&nbsp;&nbsp;he studied law at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bristol_University\">Bristol University<\/a>&nbsp;from 1982 to 1985, becoming involved in the university's theatre club there; he eventually acted in over 30 plays and performed each summer at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edinburgh_Festival_Fringe\">Edinburgh Festival Fringe<\/a>, first with Bristol University and then twice with the National Student Theatre Company. After graduating, he went immediately to train at London's&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Central_School_of_Speech_and_Drama\">Central School of Speech and Drama<\/a>&nbsp;from 1985 to 1988.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CAREER &nbsp;Early work<\/strong>&nbsp;<br><br>After training as an actor, Isaacs immediately began appearing on the stage and on television; his film debut was in a minor role as a doctor in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mel_Smith\">Mel Smith<\/a>'s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Tall_Guy\"><em>The Tall Guy<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1989).&nbsp;&nbsp;He was initially known as a television actor, with starring roles in the ITV drama&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Capital_City_(TV_series)\"><em>Capital City<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1989) and the BBC drama&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civvies_(TV_series)\"><em>Civvies<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1992) and guest roles in series such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Taggart\"><em>Taggart<\/em><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inspector_Morse_(TV_series)\"><em>Inspector Morse<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Highlander:_The_Series\"><em>Highlander: The Series<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1993)&nbsp;&nbsp;He also played Michael Ryan in ITV's adaptation of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martina_Cole\">Martina Cole<\/a>'s novel&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dangerous_Lady\"><em>Dangerous Lady<\/em><\/a>, directed by Jack Woods and produced by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lavinia_Warner\">Lavinia Warner<\/a>&nbsp;in 1995&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On stage, he portrayed the \"emotionally waffling\"<a href=\"#cite_note-Yahoo-13\">[13]<\/a>&nbsp;gay Jewish office temp Louis Ironson in Tony Kushner's Pulitzer-Prize-winning&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Angels_in_America:_A_Gay_Fantasia_on_National_Themes\"><em>Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes<\/em><\/a>, at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_National_Theatre\">Royal National Theatre<\/a>, in its London premi\u00e8re, performing the role in both parts,&nbsp;<em>Part One: Millennium Approaches<\/em>, in 1992, and&nbsp;<em>Part Two: Perestroika<\/em>, in 1993.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When auditioning for that role, he told the producers, \"Look, I play all these tough guys and thugs and strong, complex characters. In real life, I am a cringing, neurotic Jewish mess. Can't I for once play that on stage?\"&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After appearing in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dragonheart\"><em>Dragonheart<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1996), Isaacs landed his first major Hollywood feature-film role alongside&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laurence_Fishburne\">Laurence Fishburne<\/a>&nbsp;in the horror film&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Event_Horizon_(film)\"><em>Event Horizon<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1997) where he played the role of D.J., the doctor of Lewis and Clark. Subsequently, he appeared in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bruce_Willis\">Bruce Willis<\/a>&nbsp;blockbuster&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armageddon_(1998_film)\"><em>Armageddon<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1998).&nbsp;&nbsp;Initially called upon to take a fairly substantial role, Isaacs was eventually cast in a much smaller capacity as a planet-saving scientist so that he could accommodate his commitment to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Divorcing_Jack_(film)\"><em>Divorcing Jack<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1998), a comedy-thriller he was making with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Thewlis\">David Thewlis<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Isaacs played a charismatic honourable priest opposite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kirstie_Alley\">Kirstie Alley<\/a>&nbsp;in the miniseries&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=The_Last_Don_II&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><em>The Last Don II<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1998).&nbsp;Following that he portrayed a priest opposite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Julianne_Moore\">Julianne Moore<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ralph_Fiennes\">Ralph Fiennes<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neil_Jordan\">Neil Jordan<\/a>'s acclaimed adaptation of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Graham_Greene\">Graham Greene<\/a>'s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_End_of_the_Affair_(1999_film)\"><em>The End of the Affair<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(1999).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;2000s<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2000, Isaacs starred in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Historical_drama\">historical<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Epic_film\">epic film<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Patriot_(2000_film)\"><em>The Patriot<\/em><\/a>, opposite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mel_Gibson\">Mel Gibson<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heath_Ledger\">Heath Ledger<\/a>, playing sadistic cavalry officer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colonel_(United_Kingdom)\">Colonel<\/a>&nbsp;William Tavington. Critics deemed the performance \"memorable\";&nbsp;&nbsp;a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moviefone\">Moviefone<\/a>&nbsp;article called it \"his biggest international break to date\".&nbsp;&nbsp;It led to rumours that Isaacs would be nominated for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_Award_for_Best_Supporting_Actor\">Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor<\/a>&nbsp;at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/73rd_Academy_Awards\">73rd Academy Awards<\/a>. Nonetheless, demonstrating his range beyond historic films, Isaacs next chose to play a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drag_queen\">drag queen<\/a>&nbsp;in the romantic comedy-drama&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sweet_November_(2001_film)\"><em>Sweet November<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2001).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs has appeared in many other films, most notably as&nbsp;<a href=\"#Lucius_Malfoy\">Lucius Malfoy<\/a>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_(film_series)\"><em>Harry Potter<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;series of films (2002\u20132011). Regarding the Harry Potter books by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J._K._Rowling\">J. K. Rowling<\/a>, he has said: \"I went off and read the books after the audition and I read the first four books in one sitting\u2014you know\u2014didn't wash, didn't eat, drove around with them on the steering wheel like a lunatic. I suddenly understood why my friends, who I'd thought were slightly backward, had been so addicted to these children's books. They're like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crack_cocaine\">crack<\/a>.\" (From an interview in 2009 on ITV's&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Justin_Lee_Collins_Show\"><em>The Justin Lee Collins Show<\/em><\/a>)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In \"The Naked and the Dead\", an article published in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Francisco_Chronicle\"><em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em><\/a>, on 26 November 2006, Neva Chonin named the character Lucius Malfoy one of the 12 \"Sexiest Men Who Were Never Alive\" and Isaacs one of the 13 \"Sexiest Men Who Are Real and Alive\".&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to the making of the film, when asked whether or not he would be in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Order_of_the_Phoenix_(film)\"><em>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2007), Isaacs replied, \"I hope so \u2013 you'll have to ask David (producer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Heyman\">David Heyman<\/a>). I can't bear the idea that somebody else would get to wear my&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paris_Hilton\">Paris Hilton<\/a>&nbsp;wig, but you never know.\"&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Isaacs also talked to Rowling on the inclusion of Lucius Malfoy in the then unpublished&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows\"><em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows<\/em><\/a>, so that he would have a part in the seventh and final film: \"The character does not appear in the sixth book,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Half-Blood_Prince\"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince<\/em><\/a>; but ... [Isaacs joked], 'I fell to my knees and begged ... It didn't do any good. I'm sure she doesn't need plot ideas from me. But I made my point. We'll see. Like everybody else, I'm holding my breath to July to see what's in there. I just want to bust out of prison, that's all. I don't want to stay in&nbsp;<a href=\"#Azkaban\">Azkaban<\/a>&nbsp;most of my life.'&nbsp;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Ultimately Isaacs did reprise the role of Malfoy as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cameo_appearance\">cameo appearance<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Half-Blood_Prince_(film)\"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2009), where he is seen in a moving&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Portrait\">portrait<\/a>. Afterwards, Isaacs reprised the role again in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows_%E2%80%93_Part_1\"><em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows \u2013 Part 1<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2010) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows_%E2%80%93_Part_2\"><em>Part 2<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2011).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs appeared in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Hawk_Down_(film)\"><em>Black Hawk Down<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2001),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jackie_Chan\">Jackie Chan<\/a>'s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Tuxedo\"><em>The Tuxedo<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2002), as&nbsp;<a href=\"#George_and_Mary_Darling\">George Darling<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Captain_Hook\">Captain Hook<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/P._J._Hogan\">P. J. Hogan<\/a>'s adaptation of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Pan_(2003_film)\"><em>Peter Pan<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2003), and as the voice of Admiral Zhao in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender_(season_1)\">the first season<\/a>&nbsp;of the animated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nickelodeon\">Nickelodeon<\/a>&nbsp;series&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender\"><em>Avatar: The Last Airbender<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2005). He played the leading role of Sir Mark Brydon, the British Ambassador to the United States, in the BBC Four miniseries&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_State_Within\"><em>The State Within<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(2006), for which he was nominated for the&nbsp;<a href=\"#Television\">Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television<\/a>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/65th_Golden_Globe_Awards\">65th Golden Globe Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On television, he also portrayed actor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_H._Corbett\">Harry H. For his portrayal of the detective, Isaacs won a Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs starred as Detective Michael Britten in the NBC police procedural fantasy drama series&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Awake_(TV_series)\"><em>Awake<\/em><\/a>, which premiered on 1 March 2012, and ended in May 2012. (Photo by Shane Anthony Sinclair\/BAFTA\/Getty Images for BAFTA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs is set to star in the upcoming third season of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emmy_Awards\">Emmy award<\/a>&nbsp;winning show&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_White_Lotus\"><em>The White Lotus<\/em><\/a>, filming is set to take place in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thailand\">Thailand<\/a>&nbsp;on February 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal life&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs moved in with his girlfriend,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC\">BBC<\/a>&nbsp;documentary filmmaker Emma Hewitt, in 1987.&nbsp;&nbsp;They began dating while studying at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Central_School_of_Speech_and_Drama\">Central School of Speech and Drama<\/a>&nbsp;and were married in 2001.&nbsp;&nbsp;They have two daughters, Lily (b. 2002) and Ruby (b. 2005).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaacs has described himself as \"profoundly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jewish_secularism\">Jewish but not in a religious way<\/a>\".&nbsp;&nbsp;He does not keep&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kosher\">kosher<\/a>&nbsp;and is an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jewish_atheism\">atheist<\/a>.&nbsp;He has spoken of travelling unrecognised to film premieres on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London_Underground\">London Underground<\/a>, but said that \"as soon as [he] get[s] on the red carpet they start screaming and screaming\".&nbsp;&nbsp;He is involved with a number of charities and is a patron of the Scottish veterans charity&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bravehound\">Bravehound<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In British politics, Isaacs has long supported the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(UK)\">Labour Party<\/a>&nbsp;and has said that he will never support the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conservative_Party_(UK)\">Conservative Party<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2011, he said that he endorsed Labour on its educational policies but opposed its involvement in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2003_invasion_of_Iraq\">2003 invasion of Iraq<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2019, he referred to U.S. President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>&nbsp;as a \"vainglorious man\" and described the British political scene as an \"<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eton_College\">Etonian<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lord_of_the_Flies\"><em>Lord of the Flies<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;situation\".&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also called Labour leader&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeremy_Corbyn\">Jeremy Corbyn<\/a>'s handling of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antisemitism_in_the_UK_Labour_Party\">antisemitic allegations about the Labour Party<\/a>&nbsp;\"appalling\".&nbsp;&nbsp;Ahead of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2019_United_Kingdom_general_election\">2019 UK general election<\/a>, he campaigned for former Labour member&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luciana_Berger\">Luciana Berger<\/a>&nbsp;in her unsuccessful bid to become the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberal_Democrats_(UK)\">Liberal Democrats<\/a>' MP for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Finchley_&amp;_Golders_Green\">Finchley &amp;
