{"id":3237,"date":"2024-02-23T09:48:14","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T09:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=3237"},"modified":"2024-02-23T09:48:59","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T09:48:59","slug":"corinne-rachelles-slow-cooked-beef-and-prunes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=3237","title":{"rendered":"Corinne Rachelle's Slow Cooked Beef and Prunes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1462\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slow-cooked-Beef-and-Prunes.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3238\" style=\"width:409px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slow-cooked-Beef-and-Prunes.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slow-cooked-Beef-and-Prunes-768x702.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slow-cooked-Beef-and-Prunes-1536x1404.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>SLOW COOKED BEEF AND PRUNES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I was living in Manchester, working for an organisation, that supported primarily Jewish people with mental health, and learning difficulties to live independently within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My energetic, warm, dynamic friend &amp; colleague Hadassa introduced me to the idea of Beef with prunes, I was dubious how it would work, but was quickly converted to this Sephardic dish. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hadassa used to serve this quite regularly for Shabbos lunch, It is amazingly easy to prepare, and is a wonderful alternative to a traditional chulent that fills the house with the smells of a Moroccan spice market when cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0This is my slightly tweaked version of her dish, to commemorate Hadassa\u2019s 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0yartzite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Ingredients to serve 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1kilo chuck steak pre-diced<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 red onion peeled and chopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 white onion peeled and chopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4 cloves of garlic peeled and whole<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 teaspoon dried cumin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bd teaspoon dried coriander<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bd teaspoon ground cinnamon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bd teaspoon sea salt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 bay leaves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bd cup pitted olives (optional)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>250 ml of beef or vegetable stock<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The juice of one orange<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 glass red wine (I use Kiddush wine as it adds to the depth of flavour)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bd cup of chopped flat leaf parsley for serving<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>200 grams pitted prunes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 table spoon of rice flour, placed in a plastic food bag mixed with 1 teaspoon paprika and \u00bd teaspoon salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Method <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Line the slow cooker with a slow cooker bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put the chuck steak into the food bag with the seasoned flour, shake it well, so all the meat is covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put all the ingredients apart from the parsley into the slow cooker, making sure that the liquid covers everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put on the lid and cook either 2 hours on high, then turn onto low for at least 8 hours or cook over night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sprinkle parsley over before serving.
