In 2019, he also began hosting the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Channel_4\">Channel 4<\/a>&nbsp;series&nbsp;<em>The Rob Rinder Verdict<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, Rinder also became a regular host on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ITV_(TV_network)\">ITV<\/a>\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Good_Morning_Britain_(2014_TV_programme)\"><em>Good Morning Britain<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Early life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rinder was born in London&nbsp;into a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jews\">Jewish<\/a>&nbsp;family;&nbsp;his mother is Angela Cohen, chair of the 45 Aid Society.&nbsp;His maternal grandfather, Morris Malenicky, was a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Holocaust_survivor\">Holocaust survivor<\/a>&nbsp;and one of the \"<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Windermere_Children\">Windermere children<\/a>\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was brought up in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Southgate,_London\">Southgate<\/a>&nbsp;and was educated at Osidge Primary School,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Queen_Elizabeth's_School,_Barnet\">Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Youth_Theatre\">National Youth Theatre<\/a>. Rinder later gave up acting because his peer and later close friend,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Benedict_Cumberbatch\">Benedict Cumberbatch<\/a>, \"was so good\".&nbsp;&nbsp;Rinder studied politics and modern history at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Manchester\">University of Manchester<\/a>, graduating with first-class honours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legal<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rinder was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Called_to_the_bar\">called to the bar<\/a>&nbsp;in 2001, starting his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pupillage\">pupillage<\/a>&nbsp;at 2&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paper_Buildings\">Paper buildings<\/a>.<br><br>He then became established&nbsp;at 2&nbsp;<a href=\"#Chambers\">Hare Court<\/a>.&nbsp;He went on to specialise in cases involving international fraud, money laundering and other forms of financial crime. He was involved in prosecutions following the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Murder_of_Letisha_Shakespeare_and_Charlene_Ellis\">murders of Leticia Shakespeare and Charlene Ellis<\/a>&nbsp;in January 2003, and the defence of British servicemen on charges of manslaughter after the deaths of detainees in Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2010, he has been involved in the investigation and prosecution of alleged bribery, corruption, and fraud in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_Overseas_Territory\">British Overseas Territory<\/a>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turks_and_Caicos_Islands\">Turks and Caicos Islands<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Television<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While practising as a barrister Rinder wrote television scripts in his spare time. Upon attempting to sell one, he met producer Tom McLennan.&nbsp;&nbsp;He approached&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ITV_(TV_network)\">ITV<\/a>&nbsp;with a proposal for a remake of the 1970s programme&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crown_Court_(TV_series)\"><em>Crown Court<\/em><\/a>, but this was rejected in favour of a British version of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judge_Judy\"><em>Judge Judy<\/em><\/a>, and McLennan offered Rinder the opportunity to front it.&nbsp;<br><br>From 2014 to 2020 he was the eponymous judge in the&nbsp;<a href=\"#Reality_court_shows\">reality<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Court_show\">courtroom series<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judge_Rinder\"><em>Judge Rinder<\/em><\/a>, where he was referred to as a British&nbsp;<em>Judge Judy<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shortly after the programme started he criticised&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judith_Sheindlin\">Judith Sheindlin<\/a>, the judge of&nbsp;<em>Judge Judy<\/em>, for making judgements based on her preconceptions while claiming that he applied the law seriously and made \"real legal rulings\".&nbsp;&nbsp;Despite this, he insisted that it be clarified on the programme that he is a practising criminal law barrister and not a civil court judge.&nbsp;&nbsp;As such, he wears his normal barrister's&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Court_dress\">court dress<\/a>&nbsp;but without the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barrister's_wig\">barrister's wig<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rinder received praise for his cross-examination abilities and acerbic comments.&nbsp;&nbsp;His courtroom includes a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gavel\">gavel<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_of_the_United_Kingdom\">flag of the United Kingdom<\/a>, neither of which are&nbsp;used in British courts but are on display in American courts and televised court programmes, and his show has been criticised as \"<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Jeremy_Kyle_Show\"><em>The Jeremy Kyle Show<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;set in a small-claims court\".&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2015 Rinder released a book called&nbsp;<em>Rinder Rules<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2016 he presented a new series,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judge_Rinder's_Crime_Stories\"><em>Judge Rinder's Crime Stories<\/em><\/a>, with reconstructions of real crimes. He also hosted&nbsp;<em>Raising the Bar<\/em>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Radio_5_Live\">BBC Radio 5 Live<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;which he started with a discussion with former&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lord_Chief_Justice\">Lord Chief Justice<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lord_Judge\">Lord Judge<\/a>.<a href=\"#cite_note-24\">&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;In December 2017 Rinder re-launched&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crown_Court_(TV_series)\"><em>Crown Court<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;on ITV, newly named&nbsp;<em>Judge Rinder's Crown Court<\/em>, with a two-part special after a 30-year hiatus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016 Rinder competed in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Strictly_Come_Dancing_(series_14)\">fourteenth series<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Strictly_Come_Dancing\"><em>Strictly Come Dancing<\/em><\/a>, stating that he was doing so to make his grandmother proud of him.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rinder was partnered with Ukrainian-born professional dancer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oksana_Platero\">Oksana Platero<\/a>.<a href=\"#cite_note-27\">&nbsp;]<\/a>&nbsp;Rinder was eliminated in week 11 after scoring 31 points dancing a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Samba\">Samba<\/a>&nbsp;to \"<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/December,_1963_(Oh,_What_a_Night)\">Oh, What a Night<\/a>\". In 2019 he began hosting the Channel 4 series\u00a0<em>The Rob Rinder Verdict<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2020 Rinder appeared on series 2 of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Celebrity_Gogglebox\"><em>Celebrity Gogglebox<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;alongside&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Susanna_Reid\">Susanna Reid<\/a>.<a href=\"#cite_note-30\">[&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2020 Rinder released&nbsp;<em>My Family, the Holocaust and Me<\/em>&nbsp;for BBC One; a documentary which helped Jewish families discover the full truth about what happened to their relatives during&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Holocaust\">the Holocaust<\/a>.
