{"id":4752,"date":"2025-05-02T16:27:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T16:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=4752"},"modified":"2025-05-02T16:28:58","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T16:28:58","slug":"jack-kayes-albion-chronicle-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/?p=4752","title":{"rendered":"Jack Kaye's Albion Chronicle 39"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"> <strong>26 \u00a0 APRIL \u00a0 2025 \u00a0 \u00a0 <br>BRIGHTON \u00a0 &amp; \u00a0 HOVE \u00a0 ALBION \u00a0 3 \u00a0 \u00a0 WEST \u00a0 HAM UNITED<br>PREMIER \u00a0 LEAGUE \u00a0   \u00a0 <\/strong><br><strong>at \u00a0 the \u00a0 AMERICAN \u00a0 EXPRESS \u00a0 STADIUM, \u00a0 FALMER.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a 5-match winless run in the Premier, the Albion welcomed West Ham United to the Amex, the&nbsp;game being covered by Talksport 2 and BBC Radio Sussex Sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last time out, the Seagulls had slumped to a 2-4 defeat away at Brentford on the 19 April and for&nbsp;the visit of the Hammers the Albion made three changes to their starting line-up from the Brentford game, with Yasin Ayari, Solly March and Simon Adingra replacing Jan Paul Van Hecke (concussion), Yankuba Minteh and Joao Pedro (suspension). &nbsp;On the substitutes bench for the Albion were the&nbsp;fit-again Tariq Lamptey and Joel Veltman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their previous outing, the Hammers had drawn 1-1 at home to bottom-of-the-table Southampton on the 19 April. &nbsp;West Ham had parted company with Head Coach Julen Lopetegui in early January 2025 and subsequently appointed former Albion and Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter in&nbsp;Lopetegui's place. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the visit to the Amex, Potter made three changes to his starting line-up from&nbsp;the Southampton game, with Konstantinos Mavropanos, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tomas Soucek&nbsp;coming in for Vladimir Coufal, Carlos Soler and Niclas Fullkrug, the latter three dropping down to&nbsp;the substitutes bench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their meetings in the Premier last season, West Ham won 3-1 at the Amex on the 26 August 2023, with their goals coming from James Ward-Prowse (19m), Jarrod Bowen (58m) and Michail Antonio (63m), whilst Albion's consolation came from Pascal Gross (81m). &nbsp;In the return game at the London Stadium on the 2 January 2024, the teams drew 0-0. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture at the London Stadium on the 21 December 2024 the teams fought out a 1-1 draw, with Albion's goal coming&nbsp;from Mats Wieffer (51m). &nbsp;Hammers equaliser was scored by Mohammed Kudus (58m). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a sun-kissed Amex and with both teams in urgent need of a win, it was the Albion who took the lead on 13 minutes with a peach of a goal when Jack Hinshelwood's pass found Yasin Ayari in space some&nbsp;20 yards out, the midfielder composed himself before curling a superb right-foot shot over Hammers&nbsp;goalkeeper Alphonse Areola into the top of the net for Albion's opener. &nbsp;It was Ayari's first goal for the Seagulls. &nbsp;<strong>1-0<\/strong>. &nbsp;<br><br>Minutes later Simon Adingra's goal was disallowed for offside. &nbsp;Prior to the break, Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal made a smart save when tipping Tomas Soucek's effort on to the&nbsp;crossbar. &nbsp;<br><strong>Half-time 1-0.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within three minutes of the re-start the Hammers were level as Captain Jarrod Bowen found space&nbsp;down Albion's left before pulling the ball back to enable Mohammed Kudus to tap the ball home from close-range. <strong>&nbsp;1-1.<\/strong> &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better was to follow for the Hammers on 83 minutes when Bowen's superb cross from the right found Soucek who stooped low to head the ball home to put his team ahead. &nbsp;<strong>1-2<\/strong>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With time running out, on 89 minutes, three second-half substitutes &nbsp;combined to enable the Albion to equalise as Diego Gomez crossed to Brajan Gruda at the far post whose cushioned header found the&nbsp;unmarked Kaoru Mitoma who headed home from close-in.<strong> &nbsp;2-2<\/strong>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two minutes into time added on and Gruda fed Carlos Baleba some 25 yards out and the defender for the day curled home a brilliant&nbsp;left-foot shot for Albion's winner. &nbsp;The Amex went wild with excitement at Albion's late late show. &nbsp;<strong>3-2<\/strong>. An excellent win for the Seagulls and three superb goals scored. <br>&nbsp;<strong>Final-score 3-2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Match stats:<\/strong> &nbsp;<br>Albion had 16 attempts at goal, with 9 on target and won 8 corners, free-kicks conceded 7. &nbsp;<br>West Ham had 12 attempts at goal, with 4 on target and won 1 corner, free-kicks conceded - 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VERDICT<\/strong> &nbsp;- &nbsp;A magnificent comeback win by the Albion and three superb goals in the process.
