He is not a Zionist and blames Israel for \"Genocide\".<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:clamp(15.197px, 0.95rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.887), 23px);\">It is definitely a positive thing to have a Jewish leader of a political party, which may do very well over the next 3 years, attracting the left wing voters who may leave the Labour Party. In this piece, we try to explore the man and what makes him tick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:clamp(15.197px, 0.95rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.887), 23px);\">He is 45 years old, and his name at birth was David Paulden. Paulden was the name his parents had taken to avoid anti-Semitism. At the age of 18,  he made the decision to adopt the name of his Grandparents, Polanski, and in a tribute to his Jewishness take the name Zack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Polanski grew up in Salford, and attended\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stockport_Grammar_School\">Stockport Grammar School<\/a>\u00a0on a scholarship before moving to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cheadle_and_Marple_Sixth_Form_College#Ridge_Danyers_College\">Ridge Danyers College<\/a>.<sup> <\/sup>\u00a0He studied at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aberystwyth_University\">Aberystwyth University<\/a>\u00a0from 2003 to 2006 and later attended a drama school in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Georgia_(U.S._state)\">Georgia<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">United States<\/a>. He moved to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London\">London<\/a>\u00a0in the mid-2000s after graduation.<sup>  <\/sup>\u00a0Polanski worked with the theatre company DifferencENGINE as an immersive theatre actor, including appearances in\u00a0<em>The Hollow Hotel<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The People's Revolt<\/em>\u00a0(in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_of_London\">Tower of London<\/a>) \u00a0He taught at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_of_Live_and_Recorded_Arts\">Academy of Live and Recorded Arts<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Centre_for_Circus_Arts\">National Centre for Circus Arts<\/a>. Polanski also sang for the London International Gospel Choir.<sup> <\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Polanski also worked as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hypnotherapy\">hypnotherapist<\/a>. In 2013, a journalist for\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Sun_(United_Kingdom)\">The Sun<\/a><\/em>\u00a0requested a hypnotherapy session from him to increase her breast size and body image self-confidence for an article in the paper. Polanski featured in the published article, in which the journalist claimed that her breast size had increased. Polanski has apologised for his involvement, saying that the idea came from the client, that he did not charge for the session, that the therapy was meant to help with bodily self-image rather than physical enlargement, and that the article did not accurately reflect the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"438\" height=\"271\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shavuatov.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Zack-Polanski.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5613\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Political_career\">Political career<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Liberal_Democrats\">Liberal Democrats<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Polanski was active in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberal_Democrats_(UK)\">Liberal Democrats<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-:1-3\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0having joined the party in 2015.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-16\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He stood as a Liberal Democrat council candidate for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St_Pancras_and_Somers_Town_(ward)\">St Pancras and Somers Town<\/a>\u00a0in a 2015 by-election to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Camden_London_Borough_Council\">Camden London Borough Council<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-17\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He stood in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barnet_and_Camden\">Barnet and Camden<\/a>\u00a0constituency and was fifth on the London-wide list for the party in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_London_Assembly_election\">2016 London Assembly election<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-jc-5\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In June 2016, he heckled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeremy_Corbyn\">Jeremy Corbyn<\/a>\u00a0at a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Momentum_(organisation)\">Momentum<\/a>\u00a0rally, criticising him for being insufficiently supportive of the European Union. Polanski put his name forward in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_Richmond_Park_by-election\">Richmond Park by-election<\/a>\u00a0held in December 2016 but the selection list was restricted to local residents. According to\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Private_Eye\">Private Eye<\/a><\/em>, Polanski was dismayed at the decision and requested the decision be reviewed, feeling that the party was not interested in what he could contribute as a \"gay Jewish renter\".<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-19\">[19]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Before_leading_the_Green_Party\">Before leading the Green Party<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Polanski left the Liberal Democrats<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-auto-20\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and joined the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales\">Green Party<\/a>\u00a0in 2017 after interacting with former leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Natalie_Bennett\">Natalie Bennett<\/a> \u00a0In November 2018, he was the Green candidate for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lancaster_Gate_(ward)\">Lancaster Gate<\/a>\u00a0by-election to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Westminster_City_Council\">Westminster City Council<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-21\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He stood as the Green candidate in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cities_of_London_and_Westminster_(UK_Parliament_constituency)\">Cities of London and Westminster parliamentary constituency<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2019_United_Kingdom_general_election\">2019 general election<\/a>\u00a0and finished in fourth place of six candidates, with 1.7%.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-BBCLondWest2019-22\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Before his election to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London_Assembly\">London Assembly<\/a>, he became treasurer of the Jewish Greens.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-23\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In 2018, Polanski wrote on Twitter about an alleged conversation that he overheard in a restaurant, involving the then chief secretary to the Treasury,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liz_Truss\">Liz Truss<\/a>. According to Polanski, Truss criticised several of her colleagues, saying \"this is a public conversation of a very senior figure who says one thing on TV and clearly believes differently.\"<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-24\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He took part in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extinction_Rebellion\">Extinction Rebellion<\/a>\u00a0protests and was arrested at a protest in April 2019.<sup> <\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2021_London_Assembly_election\">6 May 2021<\/a>, Polanski was elected a Member of the London Assembly, having been third on the Green Party's London-wide list.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-:1-3\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He also stood in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/West_Central_(London_Assembly_constituency)\">West Central<\/a>\u00a0constituency, where he came third,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-26\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2021_Churchill_by-election\">Churchill by-election<\/a>\u00a0to Westminster City Council, where he came fourth<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-27\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0on the same day. In the new Assembly, Polanski was elected to be the chair of the Environment committee and to be on the Committee for Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning and the Economy Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December 2021, Polanski proposed a successful motion in the London Assembly backing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Climate_and_Ecological_Emergency_Bill\">Climate and Ecological Emergency bill<\/a>. It was a cross-party motion with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(UK)\">Labour<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberal_Democrats_(UK)\">Liberal Democrat<\/a>\u00a0support.<sup> <\/sup>\u00a0In 2021, he was also the Green Party's national spokesperson for democracy and citizen engagement.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-30\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 6 June 2022, Polanski announced his candidacy in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2022_Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales_deputy_leadership_election\">2022 Green Party of England and Wales deputy leadership election<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-31\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wales_Green_Party\">Wales Green Party<\/a>\u00a0gave their endorsement of his candidacy for deputy leader.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-32\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0On 7 September 2022, he was elected Deputy Leader, succeeding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amelia_Womack\">Amelia Womack<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-33\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Polanski linked the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cost-of-living_crisis\">cost-of-living crisis<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Climate_crisis\">climate crisis<\/a>, putting workers' rights at the heart of his platform. Polanski stated, \"A higher wage economy is a green economy, and the Green party will always stand side by side with people who face economic, social and environmental struggles.\"<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-34\">[34]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2024, Polanski was re-elected to the London Assembly and, in June 2024, re-elected as Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee.\u00a0During the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2024_United_Kingdom_general_election\">2024 United Kingdom general election<\/a>\u00a0campaign,\u00a0<em>The Guardian<\/em>\u00a0praised Polanski for being a \"fluent media performer\". In January 2025, Polanski refused to have an all-male panel in London's Environment Committee insisting on a diversity of speakers. The Conservatives walked out of the meeting calling Polanski's actions \"left wing identity politics\".<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-37\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2025, Polanski announced his candidacy for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2025_Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales_leadership_election\">2025 Green Party of England and Wales leadership election<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-:0-13\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In his announcement, he said that the Greens needed to be able to challenge\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reform_UK\">Reform UK<\/a>'s political narrative and to take advantage of political disillusionment with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(UK)\">Labour Party<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-:0-13\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Later that week,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Owen_Jones\">Owen Jones<\/a>\u00a0endorsed Polanski in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Guardian\">The Guardian<\/a><\/em>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-38\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Senior members of the Green Party, including Caroline Lucas, endorsed Polanski's opponents.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-39\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Polanski has stated that, under his leadership, the party will focus on \"redistributing wealth, funding public services, and calling out the genocide in Gaza\".<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-auto-20\"> <\/a><\/sup>Polanski repeatedly linked environmental, social, racial and economic justice.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-40\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Leader_of_the_Green_Party\">Leader of the Green Party<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a class=\"mw-file-description\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Green_party_england_and_wales_membership.svg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/9b\/Green_party_england_and_wales_membership.svg\/250px-Green_party_england_and_wales_membership.svg.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Number of registered members of the Green Party, showing the spike in membership after Polanski was elected<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On 2 September 2025, Polanski was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2025_Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales_leadership_election\">elected as leader<\/a>\u00a0of the Green Party in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Landslide_victory\">landslide<\/a>, with 85% of the vote share,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-Win-41\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0succeeding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carla_Denyer\">Carla Denyer<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adrian_Ramsay\">Adrian Ramsay<\/a>\u00a0in that position and beating a rival bid from MPs Ramsay and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ellie_Chowns\">Ellie Chowns<\/a>. The Green Party saw its membership rise by at least 8% from May to July 2025, when Polanski launched his leadership bid, in what some have described as a \"Polanski surge\".\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Novara_Media\">Novara Media<\/a><\/em>\u00a0reported that the party had at least 65,000 members, slightly behind its 2015 peak of 67,000. The party confirmed its membership figures to be 68,500 following the announcement of leadership election results. Membership rose to over 75,000 by 19 September following the emergence of in-fighting within the recently announced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Your_Party_(UK)\">Your Party<\/a><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-43\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and to 100,000 by 12 October, putting it above the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberal_Democrats_(UK)\">Liberal Democrats<\/a>.<sup> <\/sup>\u00a0On 19 October, the party announced that their membership numbers had overtaken that of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conservative_Party_(UK)\">Conservative Party<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-46\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his first speech as leader, Polanski said the Green Party aims to replace the Labour Party, and expressed enthusiasm for working with others who were critical both of the Labour Party and of fascism. Polanski also said he could not imagine supporting a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coalition_government\">coalition government<\/a>\u00a0led by Keir Starmer.\u00a0He has said his top priority is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wales_Green_Party\">Wales Green Party<\/a>\u00a0winning its first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Member_of_the_Senedd\">member of the Senedd<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Next_Senedd_election\">next Senedd election<\/a>.\u00a0In his first days as leader, he released the first episode of his weekly podcast\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bold_Politics_with_Zack_Polanski\">Bold Politics with Zack Polanski<\/a><\/em>\u00a0which reached fourth place in the UK news podcast charts by 8 September, and visited\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nigel_Farage\">Nigel Farage<\/a>'s parliamentary seat in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clacton_(UK_Parliament_constituency)\">Clacton<\/a>\u00a0to speak to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reform_UK\">Reform UK<\/a>\u00a0seat's constituents.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-48\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 30 September, Polanski was listed in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Time_Magazine\">Time Magazine<\/a>'<\/em>s 2025\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Time_100\">100 Next<\/a>: the world's 100 most influential rising stars.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-49\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0On 3 October, he addressed his first annual party conference in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bournemouth\">Bournemouth<\/a>, in which he called for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wealth_tax\">wealth tax<\/a>, an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arms_embargoes_on_Israel_since_2023\">end to the sale of arms to Israel<\/a>, and criticised other parties for attacking civil liberties and immigrants.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-50\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In a subsequent interview with the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Byline_Times\">Byline Times<\/a><\/em>, he stated his intention to run for parliament in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Next_United_Kingdom_general_election\">next general election<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-51\"> <\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December, Polanski visited\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Calais\">Calais<\/a>, where he witnessed the French police slashing tents, and seizing firewood from sheltering migrants.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zack_Polanski#cite_note-52\"> <\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He then released an alternative Christmas message on 25 December at the same time as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Special_address_by_the_British_monarch\">the King's broadcast<\/a>, declaring the current migration system \"cruel\", encouraging
