A WEEK OF GROWING TENSION

October 27, 2023

It has been a week of growing tension. Although there have been some convoys permitted to enter Gaza from the Rafa Crossing point, the fact is that this is not enough and the outlook for the non-Hamas Gazans gets more and more precarious. Negotiations continue with the Egyptians, American and Qataris, but Israel is firm in not permitting oil into the country for fear that it will be seized by Hamas for their war effort.

This in turns brings criticism by the outside world of Israel and this is reflected in the mass demonstrations by the Islamic World who seem to want to build this up to be a major war such as the 6 day war or Yom Kippur War. Outside the Middle East, we read of the Irish President threatening to break off relations because the Israeli Ambassador stated Israel's case.

The war is spreading with the Americans now bombing Syrian and Iraqi areas, which have been attacking US forces in Iraq. Apparently there is a summit meeting called by Putin with the Iranians and Hamas.

IN Shavuatov.co.uk, we are trying to update the story on a regular basis, and I thank Gerry Crest and Martin Reynolds for their help in this. But particularly Carolyne Davis for her comment under New from Israel. The other articles come from News from Other Sources

However in order to preserve our sanity, we need to talk of other matters. Corinne Rachelle has provided a very interesting for Hamin, which looks very tasty. Why not try it, and report back.

We have updated Jewish Music to reflect the times.

The other day I was watching Bargain Hunt on BBC1. A n antique under consideration was some Bristol Blue Glass. Then the expert announced that this had been created by Isaac Jacobs in the early 19th century. Interesting I thought and looked him up. The result is that in our celebrities, we have the story of Lazarus and Isaac Jacobs.

Finally we have something to put the smile on everyone who is even half-interested in the progress of Brighton and Hove Albion. In the football video section we cover the great victory of the Seagulls against Ajax Amsterdam, This coverage is not as professional as when Jack Kaye writes his report, but that will appear sometime in the next few days.

Jack has written up the disappointing defeat by Manchester City las weekend.

Finally can I remind you to get your tickets from Top Hat Productions musical extravaganza "Speakeasy" on the 18th and 19th November.

May I wish you Shabbat Shalom, and let us hope that none of our friends and family in Israel are hurt or in any way suffer during these problems.
