BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 3 WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 0
PREMIER LEAGUE
at the AMERICAN EXPRESS STADIUM, FALMER.
Already-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers pitched up at the Amex for a Premier League encounter, the game being broadcast by BBC Radio Sussex Sport.
In their previous outing the Albion had lost 1-3 at Newcastle United in the Premier on the 2 May and for the visit of Wolves the Albion made two changes to their starting line-up from the Newcastle game, with Lewis Dunk and Maxim De Cuyper coming in for Olivier Boscagli and Mats Wieffer (injured).
Last time out, bottom of the table Wolves had drawn 1-1 at home to Sunderland in the Premier on the 2 May and for their visit to the Amex Head Coach Rob Edwards made one change to his starting line-up from the Sunderland game, with Hwang Hee-Chan replacing Tolu Arokodare up front.
The teams met three times last season. On the 18 September 2024 in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup at the Amex, it was 3-2 to the Albion, with their goals coming from Carlos Baleba (14m), Simon Adingra (31m) and Ferdi Kadioglu (85m) whilst Wolves goals were scored by Goncalo Guedes (44m) and Tommy Doyle (90+1m). In the Premier encounters there was a 2-2 draw at the Amex on the 26 October 2024 with Danny Welbeck (45m) and Evan Ferguson (85m) netting for the Seagulls and Rayan Ait-Nouri (88m) and Matheus Cunha (90+3m) scoring late on for the Wolves. In the return game at the Molineux Stadium on the 10 May 2025 the Albion won 2-0 with the goals being scored by Danny Welbeck (28m, penalty) and Brajan Gruda (85m).
Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture at Molineux on the 5 October 2025 the teams drew 1-1 with Bart Verbruggen (21m) scoring an own goal to put the Wolves ahead and Jan Paul Van Hecke (86m) netting a late equaliser for the Albion.
The Seagulls made a sensational start to the game as with just 35 seconds on the clock Maxim De Cuyper found space down the left and his cross found the untracked run of Jack Hinshelwood who powered a header into the top of the Wolves net. It was Albion's quickest ever score in their Premier history. 1-0.
Better was to follow on 5 minutes when De Cuyper's corner found the head of Lewis Dunk who rose above his markers' to send a glancing header home for Albion's second. What a start! 2-0.
Next Kaoru Mitoma shot wide of the near post and then Dunk eluded his marker Yerson Mosquera only for his goal-bound header to be tipped over the bar by Wolves keeper Daniel Bentley. A first-half totally dominated by the Albion.
Half-time 1-0.
First action of the second-half saw Danny Welbeck send a header straight at keeper Bentley. Wolves then arose from their slumber as Hwang Hee-Chan missed an opportunity and Mosquera's header from Mateus Mane's cross landed on top of the Albion crossbar. Albion keeper Bart Verbruggen then made a fine save to keep out Mane's low drive. The Seagulls scored their third on 86 minutes when Mosquera failed to clear his lines which enabled Yankuba Minteh to pounce and fire a shot past Bentley at his near post. 3-0.
Prior to the finale Wolves missed a couple of half-chances through Adam Armstrong and substitute Tolu Arokodare.
Final-score 3-0.
