CRYSTAL PALACE 0 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBI9N 0 -
PREMIER LEAGUE
at SELHURST PARK, SOUTH LONDON.
The first M23 derby of the season saw the Albion make the short trip to South London to meet Crystal Palace in a Premier League fixture at Selhurst Park, "live" in front of the Sky Sports cameras and the game was broadcast by BBC Radio Sussex Sport.
Last time out the Albion had enjoyed a 3-0 home win over Leeds United in the Premier on the 1 November and for the visit to Selhurst Park Head Coach Fabian Hurzeler named an unchanged starting line-up from the Leeds game. It was the first time in his tenure at the Albion that Fabian Hurzeler had named an unchanged starting line-up.
In their previous Premier League outing Palace beat Brentford 2-0 at home on the 1 November and for Albion's visit Head Coach Oliver Glasner made two changes to his starting line-up from the Brentford game, with Jaydee Canvot and Adam Wharton replacing Marc Guehi (injured) and Yeremy Pino. Subsequent to the Brentford game, Palace played AZ Alkmaar at home in the UEFA Conference League on the 6 November, which game Palace won 3-1.
In their meetings in the Premier last season, Palace did the double over the Albion, winning 3-1 at the Amex on the 15 December 2024. In the return fixture at Selhurst Park on the 5 April 2025, Palace ran out 2-1 winners.
Prior to kick-off the Remembrance Day silence and the Last Post were impeccably observed by all. The match started at a frantic pace as Ismaila Sarr played in Jean-Philippe Mateta but the striker's shot missed the Brighton goal by a considerable distance whilst at the other end Palace keeper Dean Henderson made a superb save when diving to his right to deflect away a piledriver from Diego Gomez. Albion stopper Bart Verbruggen then made an excellent save to divert Sarr's well-placed shot. After this start the game slowed down to a scrappier and combative affair. Prior to the break an Albion counter saw Danny Welbeck's pass find Yankuba Minteh but the winger's shot ended up hitting the side-netting and the chance was wasted.
Half-time 0-0.
Soon after the start of the second-half Minteh's cross to the far post found Mats Wieffer but the Dutchman's goal-bound header was kept out by Henderson. Then Carlos Baleba surrendered possession of the ball to Adam Wharton, the midfielder quickly found Sarr whose low cross was met by Daichi Kamada but the resulting shot flew over the bar. The Seagulls were then awarded a penalty by Referee Tim Robinson after Georginio Rutter appeared to have been brought down in the box but after a VAR intervention the Referee changed his penalty decision and instead gave Rutter a yellow card for simulation.
Palace dominated the latter stages of the game but failed to convert chances created for Kamada and substitute Yeremy Pino. In time added on Verbruggen made a vital save from Pino as Albion held on for a well-deserved draw.
Final-score 0-0.
