Preparing for Pesach (Passover)

My aunt who is always wise says she never thinks about one Yomtov till the last one has finished, nevertheless within 24 hours after Purim she always tracks down and gets her Matzos in.

About 35 years ago, I completely changed my attitude to Pesach food shopping and preparation, I no longer buy overpriced, over processed Pesach products because they don’t suit my stomach or my purse, and I cook mainly fish, chicken, fish, meat, eggs, vegetables and soups, over the next two weeks I will share some recipes and some hints with you.

There is a tendency to buy what we see spontaneously and over or under stock when shopping for Pesach, over the years I have developed some tactics that have helped me.

  • Make a meal plan for the week for all meals including breakfast, considering the approximate numbers of guests, meals in, matzo rambles, and if working packed lunches you will need. Investing time in this will help you in the long run, save time and money.
  • Make a shopping list based on meals and order your meat, fish, matzos, wine, vegetables in advance.
  • Remember that people who normally east bread feel hungry, potatoes, homemade soups, avocados, bananas, are great filling snacks
  • This is the Egg festival, how ever many eggs you feel you need, Pesach cooking always needs more!
