A GUARANTEED GOOD TIME AT RALLI HALL! by Maxine Gordon
Well, that’s what we keep being told by numerous members of the community!
Back in November, we were lucky enough to have Steve Walker, our regular Quiz Master put together a
custom made quiz for over 100 people split into 12 teams. Before the quiz started, we were all served a
delicious two course dinner by Catering Connections, which got everyone in a sociable mood, followed
by a refreshments break and then the fun started…
The subjects were diverse and interesting, but not too complicated which kept everyone on their toes.
Steve was clear and had the quiz rolling along at a steady pace, and no matter what your IQ was, the
questions were varied and at a level that everyone could participate in so you could help your table.
A very competent team looked after the quiz paperwork - Lesley Walker (Steve’s wife) kept all the scores
and ensured everything was running smoothly, Maxine and Lesley’s son Ryan kept the question sheets
circulating and the buzz in the room was infectious. It’s always the same, you join a team for a quiz and
whilst you start calmly, the competitive spirit finds a way of building up and by the finish, it’s a fight over
half a point! The proud winners were Darren Abrahams team – congratulations to them all.
In mid-March we had another sold out function with 100+ of us enjoying a scrumptious Salt Beef Brunch
with juicy salt beef, rye bread, latkes, salad and a wonderful Lockshen pudding for dessert. Another
winner catered by Angela Samuels of Catering Connections.
The entertainment which followed our delicious brunch was provided by the very talented Sharon Starr
on vocals, and Josh Winstone on keyboards. Sharon sung a beautiful selection of popular songs by
Jewish composers, from Jewish films or by Jewish singers, with a touching tribute to Chaim Topol who
had just recently passed away. Words to most of the songs were provided, and our big Hall was filled
with the singing of our happy, contented guests.
Well, Ralli Hall must be doing something right as we keep filling our social events to full capacity. It’s a
wonderful feeling and we hope you’ve been able to come along and sample what we’re doing for our
community – no matter what age or affiliation.
Eating, socialising, meeting old friends, making new friends and getting the community together in our
Jewish Community Centre is our raison d’etre – don’t be a stranger and join us.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
