Carolyne Davis Comments on Life outside the Middle East

June 27, 2025

Well I had a good rest from technology this last 24 hours as my phone was stolen from my handbag in Finchley Road, just as we were hoping to go for a nice swim to cool off .
Without your mobile device, your life becomes paralysed. Firstly , as with everything unexpected, you can’t believe it and start searching . Bags, back to the car, under the seats .
The giveaway is when then it’s suddenly switched off . Luckily, I was with my daughter who sensed immediately it had in fact been “nicked” and knew how to report it lost .
Luckily too, I knew my Apple ID - which is your most important password - it stops the thieves from getting the keys to your kingdom .
I also have another device which is helpful but I was remote from it but once back with device no 2 and with a very helpful apple assistant from Singapore , both myself and the stolen phone were rendered useless..

Brent Cross on a Thursday afternoon is not ideal but it’s amazing how happily you will squat on those boxes that pass for seats in the Apple Store when the promise of getting back into the world of the living is looming .

First you must get a new sim , easy if you have your passport and or driving licence , know the name of your first maths teacher and your first goldfish and your favourite film and song from the 70’s of course .
Luckily I knew it all ! The car is a bit  tricky as I never know if it’s Viva or Vauxhall Viva . It’s an easy one to guess as virtually everyone’s first car was a Viva, progressing to a Cortina, then a Granada before we got those huge Mercs.

The prices are mind boggling, more than the first cars,  and of course , no theft insurance !
Got all the other cover like dropping it down the toilet  or sucking it up in the Dyson but not against some grubby little hands fishing  about in my handbag .

Now in John Lewis it’s over £100 cheaper and you get a 2 year guarantee ( if you can hold onto it that long ) .
This stolen one was quite new as I had an Apple watch for my birthday but after it told me on more than one occasion to call an ambulance ( in 24 hours), I took it back and swopped  if for said phone , that will let me enjoy high blood pressure in peace .

Having saved myself the tidy sum  of £100, well saved him indoors the sum, as I could not and still can’t actually purchase anything as I don’t know my PIN numbers and everything was stored in missing phone.

Apple won’t  help you set it up and John Lewis want  £50 . We’ve been robbed enough for one day so we managed it by ourselves and now the task of restoring emails and bank accounts doesn’t look too demanding .

TG there is a cease fire and all our family and friends are totally exhausted so probably  loving the quiet and not missing my constant nagging .

So no Israel reports this week as I’m just emerging  from the dark ages , just be 100% sure if you hear it from the BBC or Sky News it’s fake, twisted and untrue .

I’m not sure anyone knows for sure what’s going on behind the scenes except that Iran’s ambition to annialate Israel has had a major set back and the Mullahs are a bit dizzy wandering what’s next .

The loss of life is tragic and the hostages still remain in the hands of savages .

Trump’s name  will go down glorious in  history as the only politician who really helped the Jews , unlike the Europeans who turned their backs in WW11, and failed to bomb the train lines and those who turned back ships sentencing those on board to their terrible fate.
The world feels safer , but it’s only a respite and not over yet by a long shot .

May we all only knew good news , peace and health and the strength to deal with all the little challenges .

Shabbat Shalom
Kind Regards
Carolyne Davis
