AFTER 2 WEEKS OF WAR

October 20, 2023

Contents of newletter 20th October

Presidents and Prime Ministers come and go but the war has hardly started - meanwhile life must go on in Israel and among Jews everywhere

There are few of us who are not continually mindful of what is going on in Israel and the potential horrors to come in Gaza. However we have our lives to lead, and it is important that despite our sympathies, we live our lives as normally as possible.

Almost inevitably, the war is uppermost in the lives of Jews whether in Israel or throughout the Diasporah. That is how it should be, and many of us are watching the news 24 hours a day, whilst others are finding it all too depressing.

It is great that both President Biden, Rishi Sunak and the German Chancellor have visited Israel pledging their support, and though the BBC wont take sides, the feeling I get is that the efforts of the enemy to tarnish Israel's name have not taken hold yet. However the main ground attack has not yet started. I believe we have a duty to keep thoroughly informed so that we can let our non-Jeiwsh friends hear the story from the other side.

It seems accepted that the destruction of the hospital was nothing to do with any Israeli attack, but I have not heard that places such as Jordan, Saudi or Turkey have started talking again with Israel

What can we do about it. If we have the means, we can contribute to some of the charities. Carolyne Davis has a very sad story with an opportunity to contribute to helping a family get on its feet again. Chabad has a collection going on and needs your help by sunday - read about it in Chabad Brighton. Meanwhile there is Magen David Adom

Elsewhere we have under "News from different sources, a message from Gerry Crest with his commentary and digest of the reports - in addition we have a message from the Chief Rabbi, I would recommend to all. We also have the latest comments from the Honorary Consul of Israel to Scotland. These are under the heading of News from other Sources under the Jewish Life and Israel heading

Corinne presents us with us with her recipe from Israel - Chicken B'Nai Akiva.

Brighton and Hove Albion face a difficult take tomorrow against the Triple winners, Manchester City at Maine Road. Lets hope for a shock win or at least a point!

There is life apart from the war. We are carrying two advertisements for events which we pray will be happening after the war is over. I have a personal interest in Top Hat Productions and I hope I am not too old for other the pleasures at Ralli Hall.

We will keep updating this website on Sunday and after. In case you have friends who would find it interesting, if you forward me their email addresses, I can ensure that they are kept up to date

May peace be the only invader in our lives this Shabbat

Nick
