End of January News

January 31, 2025

Shabbat Shalom everybody,

I note that the beautiful weather of yesterday has been replaced by rain so that it seems that Spring is no nearer. What is called for is delicious food, and Corinne Rachelle has provided us with the answer in her recipe for Beef Pot Roast.

In this week's Parsha, we read about the last of the plagues on Egypt, including the "Death of the first born". As I read about Pharoah, I mused as to whether he is not like Vladmir Putin, who is bullying his Russia into bankruptcy and other forms of poverty in an effort to maintain his power.

It was good that more hostages were released this last week and more will be on Saturday. I was particularly pleased that the Thai hostages who were farm labourers, were freed.

In football we have the extremes. Jack Kaye's Albion Chronicle 24 celebrates Brighton's 3rd successive win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, whereas No 25 reports on an unexpected defeat to Everton at Home last week. Personally I blame the manager for this defeat. His forward Yakouba Minteh was late for his commitment, so as a punishment he was dropped from the team. Having been so successful the week before I feel that the Manager was punishing the team and supporters more than the player who came on with 15 minutes remaining.

Can I once again push the Magical Time show being put on by Top Hat Productions at the Ralli Hall on the 22nd and 23rd March. These shows are of the highest quality including great singing and expert choreography. See under for booking details.

Anyway, for those who have been having a Veganuary or just a dry month, I hope you will enjoy your return to your normality from tomorrow (Saturday).

In the mean time, Good Shabbos

Nick Beck
